Sclerotherapy is a procedure in which a solution is injected into small veins in the legs, causing them to close over time.

What to expect
More than one session is usually needed. Veins are generally reduced rather than removed, new veins can appear over time, and responses vary between individuals.
Risks include bruising, discomfort, skin discolouration at the treated site, small ulcers, inflammation, allergic reaction and, uncommonly, blood clots. Compression stockings are usually worn afterwards.
